It’s a type of cover specifically for the contents of your van – which makes it ideal for couriers or those in the haulage industry. Goods in Transit Insurance can also protect drivers who regularly use their van to move materials, goods and tools for business purposes.
There are two types of Goods in Transit Insurance:
Goods in Transit Insurance only covers the goods in the van and not the vehicle itself, so you’ll still need van insurance.
Own goods insurance offers cover against the loss or damage of trade tools while being carried by or stowed in a vehicle that you own or hire.
It covers the kinds of tools and equipment used by someone in the course of their business, including:
It also covers merchandise in transit in a vehicle owned or used by you and includes any period where you’re loading or unloading.
The kinds of merchandise covered (other than the trade tools listed above) include goods you sell or supply in the course of your business like:
To work out the level of cover you need, add up the value of your tools and merchandise. Make sure you work out the amount of cover you need as accurately as possible.
If you overestimate, you could pay more than you need to for your insurance, but if you underestimate you could be left out of pocket if you need to claim. When you know how much your goods are worth, choose one of our four levels of cover.
Carriage of goods for hire and reward offers protection for anyone who is paid to transport goods or move cargo. It covers theft, fire or impact damage for goods being delivered in the van.
It’s ideal for couriers delivering multi drop parcels for companies like Amazon or DPD – although we also cover other types of delivery like newspapers or mechanical parts.
Our levels of cover range from £1k to £50k and there’s an excess of £250.
Whether you carry tools, transport goods for others, or deliver parcels, Goods in Transit Insurance will make sure you’re protected should the worst happen.
