What type of van insurance do I need?

The type of work you do will affect the kind of policy you need - check out the options below to see what's right for you.

Social

If you don't use your van for work or commuting, Social cover is probably right for you.

It's for people who plan to use their van for leisure activities because a car is too small - think surfboards or fishing gear.

Social and commuting

If you use your van for weekend trips and leisure activities but also for commuting to and from work, this is for you.

Not only does it cover personal trips, but it also insures you for travelling to and from a single place of work.

Own goods

This cover is for people who travel between different places of work or use their van for their work. That might be:

  • builders
  • carpenters
  • social workers
  • supply teachers

If you use your van to transport tools, stock or merchandise, you may want to look at our Vehicle Contents add-on. It gives you a safety net if your van's contents are stolen or damaged.

Hire and reward

If you use your van to deliver goods for other companies, you'll need hire and reward cover.

It's perfect for couriers or furniture removers who earn money by using their van for deliveries.

Your questions answered

Still have questions? Don't worry, we've answered them below.

Do I need van insurance?

Yes! It's a legal requirement in the UK to have van insurance if you're driving a van.

But the level of van insurance you choose is up to you.

You can choose from a Third party only policy, which is the most affordable and most basic option. Or go for comprehensive cover, which includes more benefits and higher limits.

Can I drive my van abroad?

Our van insurance includes up to 90 days cover if you're driving in Europe.

If you're driving anywhere further afield, you won't be covered.

Do I need a Green Card to drive in the EU?

You don't need a green card to drive in:

  • The EU (including Ireland)
  • Andorra
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Montenegro
  • Norway
  • Serbia
  • Switzerland

But you may need a green card to drive in other countries, including Albania, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Turkey.

Can I add additional drivers to my van insurance?

Yes, you can. You can add up to five named drivers on your policy.

Can I pay for my van insurance monthly?

Yes! You can choose between paying in monthly instalments for your van insurance or paying for a whole year in one go.

How do I claim on my van insurance?

To make a claim on your van insurance, head to our make a claim page. You can either claim online or give us a call, whatever's best for you.

Make sure you have everything you need ready - like your policy number, details of the incident, as well as contact details for anyone else involved.
